iStent Inject W

How does iStent inject W work?

High eye pressure is caused by blocking the outflow of fluid through your eye’s drainage system. Eye pressure increases when the fluid gets backed up. iStent inject W is designed to improve fluid outflow and decrease eye pressure by creating two permanent openings in your eye’s drainage system.

Will it take a long time to do the procedure?

Not at all. iStent inject W stents are placed in your eye during cataract surgery. Implanting the stents does not significantly extend the length of time you will spend in surgery.

How big is iStent inject W?

iStent inject W is one of the smallest medical devices ever approved by the FDA. The iStent inject W stents are so small you won’t be able to see or feel them after the procedure is done.

Is it safe?

Yes. iStent inject W is an FDA-approved device, and it has a similar safety profile to cataract surgery.

Does iStent inject W hurt?

iStent inject W does not hurt. You won’t even be able to feel the stents after the procedure is done. However, your eyes will be sore and sensitive after cataract surgery. We will be giving you eye drop medicines to treat this.

Will I be able to stop using my glaucoma eye drop medicines?

Some patients are able to experience a reduction in their glaucoma medicines after receiving iStent inject W, but this will be at the discretion of your physician. It is very important that you follow your physician’s instructions until he or she can determine if it is safe to discontinue.
